EGEAC - Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural aims to develop the cultural venues of the city of Lisbon and allow for more efficiency in the way urban culture reaches different audiences.
It started as EBAHL in 1996 and it was responsible for the requalification and rehabilitation works at St. George´s Castle and the Taborda Theatre. It created two museums, the Fado Museum and the Puppet Museum. It rehabilitaed the Pancas-Palhas Palace and gave it the necessary conditions for functioning. It innovated the Festas de Lisboa (summer festival), which became internationally known.
In 2003 it took under its management, apart from the previously mentioned venues, the São Luiz and Maria Matos Theatres, Forum Lisboa, São Jorge Cinema and Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries).
Apart from the management and planning of activities, EGEAC is also responsible for the organization of the Festas de Lisboa and a number of other cultural events in the city, aiming at the general public.
