À Procura de Chaplin is the third show in a trilogy that began with Se Eu Fosse Nina, a cross between the character Nina from Tchékov’s The Seagull and the biography of Rita Calçada Bastos, followed by Eu Sou Clarice, a theatrical object based on the life and work of the writer Clarice Lispector, in which the director fully mirrors herself. In À Procura de Chaplin she sets out to explore the tragic-comic side of existence. Revisiting the clown universe and the circus imagery that upholds the ability to laugh at ourselves, a need to create a show in which words are not the main means of communication and in which the fragilities of life are laid bare in a free and sunny way arose. The ability to transform those very weaknesses into our greatest strength is what holds the dramaturgical side of this proposal together. “Our view of life is nothing more than the perspective we have of it, and there are so many possible perspectives. À Procura De Chaplin will perhaps confirm the search for a new perspective on life, a sunnier view of existence and what we want it to be,” writes Rita Calçada Bastos.
