In the Antiprincesas cycle, Cláudia Gaiolas also talks about Portuguese women who have left their mark in history. Carolina Beatriz Ângelo, a Portuguese physician and feminist, was the first woman to vote in the country, in 1911. The law stated that only citizens over the age of 21 who could read and write and were householders, could vote. The fact of being a widow and having to support her daughter allowed her to invoke in court the right to be considered a “householder”.
