Catarina Eufémia’s story has no princesses nor castles, no journeys to distant kingdoms nor any creatures never imagined before. It’s a story of peasants working the land from sun up to sun down, sowing, reaping and harvesting the wheat that will later be taken from their hands. It’s a story of injustice, but also of resistance. Catarina is the heroine of this story because she lived a hard life, but she never lost her joy and her will to fight for a better world. She was born and died in the Alentejo, stood up to the powerful and never stopped singing. In this new show of the Antiprincesas cycle by Cláudia Gaiolas, we’re going to sing with her.
