In December, the Sala Luis Miguel Cintra at Teatro São Luiz is filled with children on stage and in the audience. The project Cantar e Dançar em Coro (Choir Singing and Dancing), directed by Erica Mandillo, begins in the previous months, with work carried out with 5th to 7th grade classes from various schools. In these concerts, six pieces of simple choral repertoire with corporal involvement are presented, with each pair of classes singing a specific piece together with the Coro Infantil da Universidade de Lisboa and all classes singing two pieces together. Always with piano accompaniment, the Coro Infantil sings ten other pieces from the repertoire.
Founded by Erica Mandillo in 2005, the Coro Infantil da Universidade de Lisboa develops a new approach to choral music, in which it associates movement and theatrical gesture with the voice. It has already performed in hundreds of concerts throughout Europe and is recognised for the quality and originality of its work.
