In this concert, Carlos Barretto presents a facet of his musical activity, the solo, whose genesis occurred with Solo Pictórico – a set of painting exhibitions/performances of his own and the edition of a solo album – where Barretto explores timbral possibilities to the maximum of the instrument, whether on the bow or in pizzicato or using some electronic effects.
After completing his course at the National Conservatory of Music in Lisbon, Carlos Barretto lived in Vienna (1980-1982), where he studied with Ludwig Streischer, one of the world’s great double bass masters. He decided to dedicate his professional career to improvised music, residing in Paris (1984-1993), a city from which he had the opportunity to work with great names in jazz, performing at the most prestigious festivals in several countries. Returning to Portugal in 1993, he began his projects as a leader and composer, having recorded eight CDs under his own name and collaborated on more than twenty and performed at numerous Portuguese and European festivals.
