World Puppetry Day, which is celebrated on March 21st, is marked at Teatro São Luiz, with the presentation of the program of the 23rd edition of FIMFA Lx – International Festival of Puppets and Animated Forms, which runs from May 18th to 4th of June in various spaces in Lisbon. On this occasion, Luís Vieira and Rute Ribeiro, the artistic directors of FIMFA and A Tarumba – Teatro de Marionetas, mark the company’s 30th anniversary with the launch of two publications: Pensar a marioneta. FIMFA Lx. Conversas e reflexões, coordinated by Catarina Firmo, Luís Vieira, Miguel Falcão and Rute Ribeiro, a publication that was born from the desire to capture, share and disseminate conversations, interviews and theater reviews held during FIMFA Lx21 with companies and puppeteers, Portuguese and foreign researchers, such as Teatro de Marionetas do Porto, Teatro de Ferro, Patrick Sims, Christine Zurbach, Didier Plassard and Bonecos de Santo Aleixo, as well as an interview with the artistic direction of A Tarumba/FIMFA – the edition is by A Tarumba, with the support of CET-FL.UL – Center for Theater Studies of the Faculdade de Letras of the University of Lisbon and partnership ESELx – Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa; e Matière, paysage et récit dans le théâtre de marionnettes, by Catarina Firmo (Éditions Manuscrit, Paris), a study that proposes to follow an itinerary of shows and puppet theater companies where the idea of animism arises to explore the expressive possibilities of the materials, listen to their stories and reactivate landscapes, whether whether they are real or generated by our dreams – Catarina Firmo is a researcher and professor at the Center for Theater Studies at FL.UL and Invited Adjunct Professor at ESELx-IPL.
