What is music made of? Are life and art different things? In 2021, as part of the Filo-Lisboa Festival at the Teatro São Luiz, Teatro Praga premiered the children’s show Fazer Uma Canção. The premise was simple: to talk about a philosopher, his life and musical work, paying tribute to him and singing his songs. Written by André e. Teodósio and performed by Alex D’Alva Teixeira, the result couldn’t have been more lovely. We wander through the childhood songbook of philosopher José Barata Moura, through his life story intertwined with the life story of Alex D’Alva Teixeira, who, from the Eurovision Song Contest to his local parish, has performed everywhere. In between, we learn how to write a song. What is this fungagá anyway?! We sang it until we lost our voices. Fazer Uma Canção is a lesson in music, philosophy, politics and love. A tribute to a key composer in the history of children’s music by an unrivalled contemporary musician.
