Description

It’s been more than three decades that Francisco Sassetti counts when he wants to measure his relationship, which is very deep, with the piano. During that time, his career took him to perform throughout the country, but also on international stages, from France and Belgium to Germany and Spain, passing through the United States and Uruguay, often alongside big names in Portuguese music, like Maria João, for example. Ute Lemper was one of the international artists he recorded with. This new solo work marks a new stage in his life, also showing him as a composer, opening the doors to a more intimate and secret side of his personality. “In reality”, says the musician, “most of the songs are already around 10 years old. After the death of my brother, Bernardo, in 2012, I started to compose compulsively, almost as if I wanted to continue his work, so tragically left in the middle. It was a form of lamentation and also a space of peace and silence. On the other hand, the demanding work as a concert artist and teacher (at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and the Orquestra Metropolitana, among other institutions) did not allow me to a lot of time to finish the compositions, which, however, I managed to do.” This feeling of loss helps explain the contemplative and cinematic side of his pieces, very lyrical, which develop into a plot that sounds almost magical and is undoubtedly full of emotion. Themes like Dawn, Home or Goodbye reveal the emotional weight that is entwined in the melodies that touch us on the deepest side. Sad, but never dark, introspective and nostalgic, this song also vibrates with life and passion and affirms the name of Francisco Sassetti in the panorama of the neoclassical scene.
