The project Impermanência(s), by Orquestra do Hot Club Portugal (HCP), aims to expand the boundaries of traditional jazz orchestras, suggesting a rich dialectic between improvisation and written composition, authorship, collectivity and individuality, as well as performance as a crucial element in artistic composition. By promoting the creation of original works by collaborating with Portuguese composers, the orchestra, with Pedro Moreira as its musical director, explores the intersections between contemporary classical music and improvised music, encouraging a dialogue that expands the formal and aesthetic possibilities of those two worlds.
Founded in 1991, and directed by double bass player Zé Eduardo in its inaugural concert at Teatro São Luiz, the Orquestra do Hot Clube Portugal has since given countless concerts across the country and includes a varied repertoire that alternates between contemporary programmes and works by important composers in the big band’s history.
