1001 Noites – Irmã Palestina is a co-creation of Teatro O Bando, Companhia Olga Roriz and Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa. Under the joint artistic direction of Olga Roriz and João Brites, eight actors and dancers are on stage representing numerous characters, including Xariar, Xerazade and Doniazade, represented by Maria Dally, a Palestinian dancer. They are also joined by a group of thirty musicians. Theatre, Dance and Music come together in a foray into an anthology of fascinating stories preserved in the ancient oral tradition, which has become one of the most important works of universal literature. Part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Teatro O Bando, this is the second show in the tetralogy 1001 Nights, which for four years comes to life by the hands of different directors from Teatro O Bando. Like the web woven by Scheherazade, night after night, year after year, a new show is born from the end of the previous show. In a co-production with Coliseu do Porto / FITEI and São Luiz Teatro Municipal / EGEAC, the path now continues in this new complicity in which Olga Roriz and João Brites intercept their creative processes, calling for reflection and construction with four artists from each one of the groups, looking together for the truths that are hidden in fictions and the illusions that cloud reality, trying to accept that, in a world so divided and with so many points of view, doubt and inquiry can still be places of recognition and encounter .
1001 Noites – Irmã Palestina premieres on the 18th of May at the Coliseu do Porto and runs from the 30th of May to the 2nd of June at the São Luiz Teatro Municipal, from the 7th to the 16th of June at the Cine Teatro São João de Palmela, and on the 6th of July is part of the Almada Theater Festival program.
