Description

João Barradas accepts the challenge from Casa Bernardo Sassetti to revisit the pianist and composer’s music, transforming it and making it his own in a show that will certainly be one of the highlights of this edition.

One of the most creative musicians in the European accordion scene, João Barradas moves simultaneously between classical tradition and improvised music. He is responsible for the first accordion recitals in programs as diverse as those of the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation or the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and performs as a soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich, the Hamburg Symphony or the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of prestigious conductors such as Edward Gardner, Alondra de la Parra, Sylvain Cambreling and Christoph Poppen.

In the world of Jazz, he has increased the influence of his instrument by collaborating with some of the most important contemporary improvisers, such as Mark Turner, Peter Evans, Aka Moon, Greg Osby, Mike Stern, Rufus Reid, David Binney and Gil Goldstein and formations from all over the world. like the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. He was named ECHO Rising Star by the European Concert Hall Organization in 2019. This season he is the Artist in Residence at Casa da Música, in Porto, and was distinguished with the Sir Jeffrey Tate Award, in Germany.
