Kavita Shah returns to Portugal, after her great success in 2023, to present Cape Verdean Blues live at Teatro São Luiz. The award-winning jazz vocalist and North American composer brings the album recorded in honor of Cesária Évora and takes the stage accompanied by Bau and Jorge Almeida on guitars and N’Du on percussion. At the heart of this 12-song album is Sodade, an idiomatic word that has no translation in English, but refers to a melancholy feeling of transience that permeates Cape Verde, its music and its free-spirited island population. “I found a sense of home that had eluded me for much of my 37 years in this paradise in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean,” says Shah. “When I look back, I realize that, when I heard Cesária’s voice almost a decade ago, she called me down a path that I must continue to follow in search of sodade.” In collaboration with the renowned guitarist Bau (Cesária Évora, Tito Paris, Bius) and the visionary percussionist Miroca Paris (Madonna, Cesária Évora), the album was released in August 2023 with the Folkalist Records label.
