Singer Maria João needs no introduction, but you can’t emphasise enough the eclecticism and strong thirst for creativity that define her work and musical trajectory. Her unmistakeable style has become a reference within the challenging and competitive field of improvised music. Her remarkable vocal capacity, combined with a uniquely intense performative style, have earned her not only international recognition, but also a place among today’s best singers. The singer performs at Misty Fest with the new project she shares with Brazilian pianist, composer and multi-instrumentalist André Mehmari, regarded as one of the top musicians in Brazilian contemporary music. These shows open a new creative chapter in the history of this transatlantic musical partnership between Maria João and Mehmari. At Misty Fest, the duo will perform their new album Algodão, released in September this year. It’s a very careful production that unites the two sides of the Atlantic, Portugal and Brazil.
