NEVER ODD OR EVEͶ is a collaborative project between two choreographic duos: Filiz Sizanli & Mustafa Kaplan (Turkey) and Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz (Portugal), artists who have been working, for over a decade, almost exclusively with their pair. Despite having very diverse experiences and creative approaches, the two duos share a fascination for precision, minimalism, language, abstraction and a growing interest in the interactions between spoken word, voice, movement and gesture. Added to these is another characteristic that brings them together and seems to be specific to their long-standing collaborations: an awareness of what it means to intimately share the creative process. Working on concepts like duplicity, in its artistic, social and literal sense, and the idea of peripheral bodies, from their own experience as artists inhabiting the periphery of Europe (Portugal and Turkey), the quartet develops a work that contains both their similarities and what differentiates each pair, as well as the tension between change and continuity. NEVER ODD OR EVEͶ takes a look at the world that does not ignore borders, limits, centres and margins as fundamental elements in the production of thought about today’s social, economic and cultural tensions.
