Launched in France in 2015, Noite das Ideias (Nuit des Idées) soon became a world-renowned event. Noite das Ideias takes place every year in over 60 countries. It is a moment for sharing and a space for joint reflection about major contemporary topics, where several intellectuals, artists, journalists, writers, poets and scientists debate about various subjects throughout an entire evening.
Noite das Ideias is a space of freedom of expression and creation, a rare moment of exchange between experts in various fields and the public.
At this time of uncertainty, in which the world is entering a new historical period whose contours and nature we are still struggling to define, French and Portuguese guest speakers, while interacting with the public, will reflect on the subject of “fault lines”.
At a time when hitherto well-established dichotomies between Private/Public, Man/Woman, Nature/Culture and Human/Non-Human appear to become blurred, what conceptual tools and imagined realities are required to build a shared world? At a time when the legacies from the Enlightenment and Universalism are under threat, how can we understand this new diversity and rebuild on broader and more inclusive baselines? At a time when objects and people, land and sky, humans and non-humans appear to be forever stuck in a logic of commodification, how can we imagine and develop a new path and make new voices heard in order to build a fairer and more dignified world?
Working together and interacting with philosophers, poets, anthropologists, biologists, slam poets, rappers, writers and historians from France and Portugal, we will open up the field of possibilities, create new temporalities and imagine new futures.
