Each one of the works performed by Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil marks an anniversary linked to composers and works. On the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís Vaz de Camões, his life is celebrated with a work by Christopher Bochmann, performed for the first time for a baritone and an orchestra, about the sonnet O cisne, quando sente ser chegada. In addition, the 150th anniversary of the death of Peter Cornelius is commemorated with a work by this little-known composer, and the 100th anniversary of the death of Fauré is marked with four pieces dedicated to the Master by other renowned composers. Sibelius, the great Finnish composer, is also honoured with a performance of his Symphony No. 7, composed 100 years ago. The Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil also reminds us that Christopher Bochmann was appointed its resident conductor 40 years ago. The entire concert is a tribute to the musician, composer, teacher and conductor, who, over the past four decades, has been carrying out important work in the education and training of young musicians.
