As Indian Union troops in 1961, prepare to invade the so-called “Portuguese India,” a Brahmin and Catholic family from Goa faces its ghosts and fears. Orlando da Costa creates a dramatic microclimate where the characters grow until they reach the extreme dimension of their strengths. An almost unbreathable atmosphere caused by the confrontations and debates between the characters, where love, hate, commitment, courage and weakness explode in the face of the inevitable. The invasion of Goa, Damão and Diu, which lasted only 36 hours and which marks the beginning of the end of the Portuguese Empire, has never before or after this work been addressed on the Portuguese stage. Written in 1967 and published in 1971, during the term of the “Comissão de Censura”, this work was translated into English and released in India in January 2017.
