Finnish visual artist, magician and director Kalle Nio is doing a creative residency in Lisbon from the 8th to the 14th October, during which he will be teaching a masterclass, open to performing arts students and workers, to speak about his performances where visual arts, magic and theatre come together, and particularly about his work on video projection, sound and colours.

During this residency in Lisbon Kalle Nio will develop his latest solo performance, The Green, a co-production with teatro São Luiz, that will be staged in the 2019/20 season. Starting from the idea of illusion, Kalle Nio works around the dialog between past, present and future, magic and visual arts, handcraft and technology, reality and illusion. The Finnish artist comes back to Teatro São Luiz after having been here twice. In 2014 he integrated the FIMFA– Festival Internacional de Marionetas e Formas Animadas with Lähtö / Départ, a production of the circus and visual theatre company WHS who paid tribute to black and white films, Michelangelo Antonioni films and the masters of magic of the XIX century. Afterwards, in 2017, he brought Cutting Edge, a visual theatre performance inspired in historical pictures, images and myths on decapitations and old illusionists tricks.
