Finnish visual artist, magician and director, Kalle Nio presents a solo performance co-produced by Teatro São Luiz, in whose creation a residence in Lisbon in 2018 was involved. Starting, as always, from the idea of illusion, he works around the dialogue between the past, present and future, between magic and visual arts, between crafts and technology, between reality and illusion. The Green marks his return to São Luiz after having joined, in 2014, the FIMFA – Festival Internacional de Marionetas e Formas Animadas program with Lähtö / Départ, and with Cutting Edge in 2017. His new show will draw inspiration from spiritualism, the sense of the void and unboxing videos on You Tube. The nothingness and void of a green screen gradually become a living character who takes over the stage. Combining nineteenth-century magician techniques with the most recent video and sound technology, Kalle Nio creates a wordless performance that takes the viewer to an unrealistic place where the boundaries between reality and illusion are blurred.
